residency in berlin

The studio residency in Berlin welcomes visual and narrative makers and researchers focusing on the relationship between images and texts, books and archives.

Laimun is an artist-in-residence program and curatorial project that intends to create conversations with local and international artists across various disciplines. The residency is a self-funded project and organized by the independent curator and editor Anya Jasbar, with the intent to support artists, writers, and designers who are looking to develop their practices and projects.

The Berlin edition of the residency will take place from the 26th of November to the 5th of December 2020, hosting one resident for ten days in total.

The Berlin session is welcoming artists, designers, writers, curators, and researchers, who need time and a dedicated space to focus on editing new work or concluding an ongoing project related to visual research, photography as well as image-text based work.

For this session, we welcome applications from the following fields:

• Visual Arts with a focus on image-making, photography, and image-based research
• Narrative Arts (writers, publishers, filmmakers, and any story-driven practices)
• Research and Curatorial Practice

Laimun is an inclusive project and is open to candidates of any language, gender, age (18+), or nationality.

Application deadline 02.11.2020

The Berlin edition of the residency has a duration of 10 days and offers to 1 resident a living and working space in the North-Eastern part of the city.

The studio space has a size of 22sqm with a kitchenette, a large office table, wi-fi, printer, scanner, and access to the studio’s library.

The studio’s library hosts a collection of books that the resident can browse and use as a reference for projects or research topics. In addition to the existing collection, the resident can specify a selection of books that might be useful during the residency and that we will try to acquire, in print or digitally, through direct acquisition or interlibrary loans before the beginning of the program. The studio’s library has a majority of English titles, but books in other languages can be available on request.

The living space is in a private apartment in Berlin Pankow. The resident will have a private bedroom of 28sqm (with shared bathroom) with a balcony, and access to the kitchen for breakfast.

Laimun in Berlin offers free-of-charge accommodation and use of the studio. We will also help the resident with finding research materials, creating connections with local organizations and artists, dedicating time to the analysis of the project, and the further development of it if needed.
